My Dad Expected Me to Support His Affair Partner During Pregnancy — I Refused

My Dad Expected Me to Support His Affair Partner During Pregnancy — I Refused

The Phone Call That Changed Everything

Rain poured heavily across the streets of Chicago when Hannah received a phone call from her father.

It was almost 1:30 in the morning.

She already knew that calls at that hour never brought good news.

She answered the phone.

On the other side was her father Mark’s panicked voice.

“Hannah… Olivia is in the hospital.”

Hannah stayed silent for a few seconds.

Olivia.

The same woman her father had left her mother for.

The same woman who destroyed a twenty-year marriage.

The same woman whose existence pushed her mother into depression.

Hannah coldly asked:

“So?”

Mark’s voice trembled.

“The pregnancy became complicated… doctors are saying the situation is risky.”

Hannah closed her eyes.

She couldn’t decide whether she felt sympathy… or just anger.

Then Mark said the words that shook her completely.

“I need you.”

The Affair That Destroyed Their Family

Two years earlier, Hannah’s life had looked completely different.

She lived in Boston with her mother Claire and her father in what felt like a normal middle-class family.

Sunday dinners.
Family vacations.
Movie nights.

Then one day, everything collapsed.

Hannah would never forget the night she found her mother crying on the kitchen floor.

Claire held only one text message in her shaking hands:

“I’m sorry. I never meant for this to happen.”

The message had been sent by Olivia.

Mark’s affair had been going on for six months.

And the worst part?

Olivia worked for him… and she was only seven years older than Hannah.

The divorce destroyed Claire emotionally.

She barely got out of bed for months.

Meanwhile, Mark moved into a new apartment with Olivia.

And now…

Now he was asking Hannah for help.

The Hospital Confrontation

The next day, Hannah went to the hospital only because her grandmother insisted.

The white ICU walls made her feel suffocated.

Mark stood in the hallway.

He looked older than before.

Dark circles under his eyes.
Messy hair.
Shaking hands.

Hannah asked coldly:

“What happened?”

Mark quietly answered:

“Olivia has severe complications. The baby is in danger too.”

Hannah remained silent.

Mark looked at her helplessly.

“Please… she’s alone.”

That sentence almost shattered Hannah’s control.

“Alone?!”
“When the two of you were destroying our family, my mother was alone too!”

The hallway went silent.

A few nurses stopped to stare.

Mark quietly whispered:

“I know I failed you.”

Hannah laughed bitterly.

“No, Dad. You failed all of us.”

Meeting Olivia Again

After a while, Hannah finally entered Olivia’s room.

Olivia lay weakly in the hospital bed.

She looked fragile.
Her face was pale.
IV lines covered her hands.

She no longer looked like the glamorous woman who once destroyed Hannah’s family.

She simply looked terrified.

Olivia spoke softly:

“Hi Hannah…”

Hannah didn’t respond.

An uncomfortable silence filled the room.

Then tears formed in Olivia’s eyes.

“I know you hate me.”

Hannah immediately replied:

“You destroyed my mother.”

Olivia lowered her eyes.

“I know.”

For some reason, that answer made Hannah even angrier.

Because sometimes apologies arrive far too late.

“She’s Scared”

A few days later, the doctors announced that the situation had become even more serious.

Olivia needed emergency surgery.

Mark began emotionally falling apart.

One night, he stopped Hannah in the hospital cafeteria.

“If something happens to Olivia… the baby won’t survive.”

Hannah answered in an exhausted tone:

“I’m not a doctor.”

Mark looked desperate.

“I just need emotional support.”

Hearing that made Hannah’s anger explode again.

“You seriously thought I would emotionally support the woman you cheated on my mother with?!”

People nearby started staring at them.

Mark went silent.

Then he quietly said:

“She’s scared.”

Hannah’s voice broke instantly.

“My mother was scared too.”

A Mother’s Pain Never Fully Leaves

That same night, Hannah went to her mother’s house.

Claire quietly stood in the kitchen making tea.

Even after two years, the sadness betrayal left behind was still visible in her eyes.

Hannah softly asked:

“Mom… if you were me, what would you do?”

Claire stayed quiet for a long time.

Then she said:

“I may never forgive that woman… but I also can’t hate an unborn child.”

Hannah fell silent.

Claire gently held her hand.

“Sometimes being a good person hurts more than getting justice.”

The Night Everything Changed

Around three in the morning, Mark called again.

His voice sounded broken.

“Hannah… they’re taking Olivia into surgery.”

Hannah’s heart started pounding.

She rushed to the hospital immediately.

The hallway was filled with chaos.

Doctors rushed back and forth.
Machines beeped loudly.
Nurses shouted instructions.

Mark sat against the wall crying.

For the first time…

Hannah saw her father looking truly weak.

“Please Don’t Let My Baby Grow Up Hated”

A little later, a nurse stepped outside.

“Olivia is asking for Hannah.”

Hannah froze in shock.

She entered the room.

Olivia lay there wearing an oxygen mask.

Fear filled her eyes.

With trembling breaths, she whispered:

“If something happens to me… please don’t let my baby grow up hated.”

Tears filled Hannah’s eyes.

The woman she hated most… now looked like nothing more than a frightened mother.

The Surgery and the Truth Hannah Finally Realized

The surgery lasted for hours.

By morning, everyone was emotionally exhausted.

Finally, the doctor walked out.

“The baby survived.”

Mark burst into tears.

“And Olivia?”

The doctor stayed silent for a few seconds.

“She’s alive… but recovery will be difficult.”

Mark closed his eyes in relief.

And for the first time…

Hannah felt some of the hatred inside her slowly fade.

Did Hannah forgive them?

No.

Some wounds never fully heal.

She still hadn’t forgotten her father’s betrayal.

She still connected Olivia to her mother’s tears.

But she realized something important:

Hatred may protect a person…

but it does not always heal them.

A few months later, Olivia finally brought home a baby girl.

Mark had changed.

He became quieter.
More humble.
More guilty.

And Hannah?

She still kept her distance.

But one day, she held the baby in her arms… and suddenly realized something:

This child was not responsible for anyone’s betrayal.

She was simply a new life.

A new beginning.

Eventually, Hannah looked at her father and quietly said:

“I may never forget all of this… but I’m also not going to let my hatred define the rest of my life.”

Tears filled Mark’s eyes.

And maybe for the first time…

The two of them took a small step toward healing after all the loss.

Because sometimes family is not only the people who hurt us…

Sometimes family is also the people we slowly learn to understand again after everything falls apart.
